Who and What is CrossVision?

Often times we are asked the question, “What is CrossVision?”  It is a fair question, considering the number of mission organizations that are in existence today.  Yet, CrossVision is very different than many of these other organizations in that it exists to enable the local church to fulfill the Great Commission and to help church members experience transformational discipleship through mission service.  CrossVision is not a sending agency, but carries out its mandate by instilling a core philosophy of missions in local churches that can be reproduced in the lives of others.  Through leadership and missions training at the local level and personal assistance and guidance on initial mission trips, CrossVision walks alongside local churches—large or small—to help them become a “missional strategy center” with worldwide implications.

We at CrossVision are heartbroken over the state of lostness in our world.  Of the world’s population of 6.8 billion people, 4 billion have little to no access to the gospel.  In response to the words of the Lord in Isaiah 6:8, “Who shall I send?  Who will go for us?” we must respond with a resounding, “Send me!”  We are driven to take the gospel of Jesus Christ to the deepest, darkest corners of the world where people have never even heard the name of our Savior.

Yet, the vision of CrossVision extends even further than “the ends of the earth”—it also reaches across the church pew and into your local neighborhood where it permeates into your workplace, your friendships, and your daily life.  Matthew 28:19 starts with the words, “Go and make disciples,” which literally means “as you are going, make disciples…”  We at CrossVision believe that the effects of a mission experience should not only impact those who are receiving the Gospel, but also those who are sharing it!  It is our conviction that no greater discipleship tool exists for the local sending church than an evangelistic mission trip with a true spiritual purpose.

This transformational discipleship, however, does not happen by accident or just by going to a foreign country.  A well meaning church can assemble a group, purchase airfare and passports, and make the necessary logistical arrangements to send a mission team, but if that team is not prepared spiritually then evangelism on the field and transformational discipleship within the team will not take place.  The very heart of CrossVision is to assist and enable the local church to do what Christ has called her to do, send out missionaries into a lost and dying world, and in the process, become better disciples themselves!
